Wilmington Wildcat Community

The community of Wilmington is extremely unique. It is located in Massachusetts, only twenty minutes north of its capital, Boston. Wilmington High School has been remarkably special during this school year of 2014-2015. Students moved into the New Wilmington High School building after the February vacation, and began watching the demolition of the old building from their new classrooms. February vacation is a week long break from school, and is usually the second or third week in the month of February.

It is not unusual to gaze out the window of your classroom and see construction men in neon vests on the roof. Occasionally in the middle of class, you can feel the floor vibrating from the construction going on in the building. Every week in the new Wilmington High School you can find something new added, and look out the window and see a part of the old building gone.
Even though the old high school is in the process of being demolished, the community helps to preserve its memories. The students put together a memory pole, consisting of pictures of the old high school.
Students also created a time capsule of things from the old high school to be opened in fifty years. The experience the students have while attending Wilmington High School the 2014-2015 year is truly unique and unlike any other. Wilmington residents voted on whether or not the town should have built a new high school. The community of Wilmington voted yes, even though it meant their taxes would rise. The community of Wilmington is highly invested in education, and having the best for the youth in the town.

  1. Good job on telling how our community is unique because of the transitions the students had to go through. The pictures of both the new and old school really help the reader understand what we see everyday from our classrooms. You can tell how important education is to the community through your blog!
