My community is in Wilmington, Massachusetts. My community is a medium sized town with close relationships to many people. My town has lots of trees still and many historical buildings. We also have a lake in town called Silver Lake. When Wilmington was in its earlier days, Silver Lake used to be a huge tourist attraction. Now, it has become a norm in Wilmington's culture. Wilmington has always felt special to me. People tend to advocate unity and close ties to everyone. This is a value that has been placed in me as well. There is some cultural diversity when it comes to living in Wilmington. People who live in this town are a part of the working class, for the most part. This shows a sense of a necessity to work hard in order to achieve great things. This value has also been a part of my life. I know that I need to work hard in school, and work in order to be able to be rewarded for my hard work. Some people believe that Wilmington isn't a great town to live in. This is one belief that I disagree with because this town has helped shape everyone who has lived here at one point into the person that we see today. My town has showed a passion towards making things better. I have seen that from the time I was around 7 to now, being a junior in high school and a 17 year old. I now see what I truly admire about this town. My town demonstrates passion, compassion, kindness, and most of all loyalty. What makes my community unique is the fact that we have a Fourth of July building that is designated for the festivities on July 4th. The Fourth of July is a holiday in the United States that celebrates our independence from Britain. In this building, they sell t-shirts, sweatshirts, and many other things to show a sense of pride for our Fourth of July festivities. This is also where a lot of non-profit organizations come together to raise money for their cause. My church, The Congregational Church In Wilmington, is one of these non-profit organizations. My church is a Christian church that is a large white church in my community. It has cemeteries to the left and across from the church. My church is active in the community, especially in the Fun on the Fourth. We put up a booth and sell Apple Crisp, Whoopee Pies, Strawberry Shortcake, and drinks. I have helped out every year since I was 13 and it is such a great experience seeing many people that live in Wilmington, as well as meeting others from different towns surrounding Wilmington. I have lived in this town my whole life and I always believe that Wilmington's Fun on the Fourth is one of the best out there. Even though it's been hard for the past few years to do it due to construction of the new high school, I still see the dedication to everyone who participates in the Fun on the Fourth to keep it going. People always help each other out in this town, one being Fun on the Fourth. They unite to put on this event. Another way that my town is unique is that we have such a huge dedication to the Arts. I can find many posters in the High school telling about some thing that has to do with the arts. The only thing I don't like about this town is that there isn't a lot to do around town. But that is slowly changing because the officials in town are working on getting more recreational facilities. Currently, my community needs assistance in getting more recreational facilities. The challenges my community faces is that people tend to hate Wilmington. Wilmington is such a great town and that is why I want to share it with you.
