What Makes Wilmington Unique

What Makes Wilmington Unique?
Lianna Natola and Conor Bailey

IMG_1890.JPGIMG_1892.JPGWilmington, MA is a small town north of Boston, Massachusetts. It is a very suburban, working class town, however, is not the most diverse place in the world. The majority of Wilmington is white and the most dominant religion is Catholicism. Wilmington High School is a strong embodiment of the people and character of Wilmington. People take pride in their town. There is a lot of “Wilmington Wildcat” spirit throughout the school and carried out into the town. This pride is displayed in various aspects of the town, specifically in the sports, and this is probably our favorite part of the town. The sports teams at Wilmington High School vary in success, however are always a lot of fun. Signs and other items display their accomplishments all over town. In 2012 and 2013, the ice hockey team here at the high school won the state championship back-to-back years. This was an exciting accomplishment in the school and many fun events were held because of it. Almost all of the school went to watch these games and joined in the excitement of the success. In addition to watching, playing these sports is very fun as well. Between the two of us, Conor runs cross country and track all year and Lianna plays for the basketball and lacrosse team. All of the teams here at Wilmington High School have respect and support for each other and want each other to succeed. They hold recreational events to try to involve the whole community and are very open with them as well. All teams welcome the entire school and town to their events and show their gratuity by giving back to the community. Wilmington also recently built a brand new high school, and the facilities for recreational and competitive athletics are incredible. This provides the tools for these activities to take place and the whole town is extremely grateful for this new school.
