My community, Wilmington MA, is unique because of its concern for the safety of its citizens. Wilmington Public Schools are known for keeping their students safe. All Wilmington schools are prepared for emergencies. They are prepared for emergencies of all kinds, like: medical emergencies, trespassers, and fires.

| Defibrillator |
When confronted with a medical issue, Wilmington Public School students have learned how to approach situations. The front office will make an announcement for a lock down. This means that every student and teacher that is in the hallway need to go into the nearest room. Everyone has to stay in the rooms and remain silent. Then the teacher turns off the lights and closes the door and pulls down the shades. Then both students and teachers go to the corner of the room where there is no windows or doors and crouches down out of view until there is an announcement that says otherwise. Also when medical emergencies occur, the school has safety kits which are located on the end of every hallway. Defibrillators are found on the first and second floors and a wheelchair on the third. Elevators are on every floor of the school for students and teachers with physical injuries. Narcan, EpiPens, evacuation bags, and ice packs are located in the nurse's office. In all science rooms, there is an eyewash station and shower in case of chemicals accidents.

| Exit Sign |
When confronted with a dangerous person in the building who may have a gun, the school goes into an A.L.I.C.E. drill. The A.L.I.C.E. drill is a new protocol adopted by Wilmington Schools. It is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. Teachers need to go through training so they can show students what to do if there is an A.L.I.C.E drill or in a real emergency. In an A.L.I.C.E drill, the administrators will announce where the intruder is in the school, and the teacher in each room makes the decision whether to stay in the room and barricade the door or evacuate the building. If the intruder, an undercover police officer, enters the room, students throw any object they can find at him/her.
Another emergency that Wilmington Schools are prepared for are fires. When there is a fire drill or an actual fire there are alarms that make loud sounds and have blinking lights to alarm everyone of the situation. Every classroom has an exit plan in case of an evacuation due to a fire. There are exit signs all over each of the schools in Wilmington that point to every exit way. There are fire extinguishers scattered among the hallways of all Wilmington schools. There are also fire extinguishers outside of every school building.
