A Needed Transition

the new Wilmington High School
the old Wilmington High School
2015 was a big year for our community. Yes the New England Patriots won the Superbowl, but the town of Wilmington was about to start a new beginning. In 2015, the new Wilmington High School was finally being finished build. Students moved into this building in February. It was a great transition, and fortunately I got to be apart of this.

the map of the new building
Change was what this community wanted and definitely needed. The old Wilmington High School was build in 1960. The desks and classrooms were getting old and walls were deteriorating. In the winter, there was no heat and in the summer, there was no air conditioner. This new project did not just involve the students and staff, but the entire community of Wilmington. As a town we have to pay taxes and a big percent of taxes goes to funding this school. Some did not like that but many loved it and that is why we have a new school today.

the new water fountain & water re-fillers
The project was a huge re-makeover, and these changes and updates that were made are very useful to us everyday of school. Water fountains are defiantly essential to students everyday. Many are known to forget their daily water so instead of dying of thirst all day, they can just use the water fountain. In addition to the water fountains, we have water re-fillers which is a mini system that fills up your water bottle with filtered, clean water. This also helps you reuse and recycle and save plastic. To promote this, there is a little green area on the water re-fillers that adds up the number of plastic bottles saved when using the machine. This school is all for recycling so this new "mini" change is even making it better.

the new updated elevator
Another change we needed was the updating of a new elevator. We are very fortunate to have one in our school system. They can be very expensive and some schools may not be able to afford them. We have many students with medical problems that need the use of the elevator. Addition to that, throughout the seasons of sports, we have a lot of injured players. Having an elevator helps them move around and get to where they need much safer. Yes, we had an elevator at the old school but that elevator was in there since 1960. Can you think of how many students and staff rode that elevator? Can you even imagine how wore out it must of been? Well, it definitely was wore out and we needed this brand new update.

This new transitions and needed updates define the school today. Staff and students are more happier and work is done in a better environment. Yes, this new project might have costed the town of Wilmington a lot but what is better than students being more productive?
